Sage is sometimes called “The Thinker’s Tea and is may be another companion plant you have worked with in the kitchen. This versatile culinary and medicinal herb containing phytoestrogens, which can help support hormonal balance, particularly during perimenopause and menopause. It encourages healthy digestion by promoting digestive enzymes and bile flow, supports oral health, and fosters a calming sense of mental clarity. Its aromatic, earthy flavor makes it a welcome addition to many teas, recipes, or ritual practices.

I return to Sage tea when I have small cuts or sores in my mouth, and find it espcially supportive to my ability to focus following a meal. Sage invites us to cultivate insight, clear focus, and grounded wisdom, to help us navigate life’s complexities with more grace.

Beyond its physical benefits, Sage is deeply revered as a companion plant for cleansing and spiritual protection. Ancient Greeks and Romans turned to Sage to enhance focus, deepen introspection, and cultivate wisdom. This tradition still echos by the way the word “sage” itself, meaning a wise person.

  • Avoid if you are allergic to plants in the Lamiaceae family (e.g., mint, sage, basil, etc.)

  • Sage belongs to a class of herbs known as Emmenagogues, which can stimulate menstruation and should be avoided when you are pregnant or working to become pregnant
